Age 70, passed away Monday, June 19 at Hurley Medical Center. Cremation has taken place. Celebration of life will be held 11AM Thursday, June 29 at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 W Hill Road, Flint, MI. The family will receive visitors Wednesday, June 28, 6-8PM and Thursday from 10:30AM until time of service. Rev. Pastor Charles Husted officiating. Arthur (Art) was a man of few words but devoted to his faith in God. Arthur was born in Flint, Michigan on February 15, 1947. He was a lifelong member of the Bethel Park Free Methodist Church. Over the years, his service to the church included Bible Quiz Coach, Teen Leader, Usher, Treasurer, Trustee, Church Delegate to East Michigan Free Methodist Conference & Grounds Keeper of the conference campgrounds. Mr. Austin was an educator at both Saginaw and Bentley High Schools. While at Bentley, he also was a bus driver and driver’s education instructor. After retiring, he continued instruction for Ace Driving School. For many years, he volunteered for the Crim Festival of Races delivering/picking up tables for all water stations on the Crim course. In his free time, he enjoyed, wood working, various sports, camping and family vacations. Art was a true handyman; he was capable of fixing anything which included plumbing, electrical, mechanical or automotive. He was preceded in death by parents Darwin and Hazel (Reed) Austin. Surviving are wife Martha (Bartholomew) Austin: Son, Stephen and wife Shelley, daughter, Krista, grandchildren, Ryan, Logan, Haleigh and Morgan.
