GASS, David A. - Of Flint, age 86, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2014 at Genesys Regional Medical Center.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton, Father Steve Anderson officiating.
Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery.
Visitation 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and a memorial service by the Knights of Columbus Council #10170 to follow.
Mr. Gass will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the Mass.
David was born in Sparta, MI on June 28, 1928, the son of Regina Frances (Noa) and Carol Bates Gass and was a resident of Flint.
He served in combat in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He married Nancy (Arenz) on August 21, 1954 in Marquette, MI.
David graduated from St. Norbert’s College with a BA in History and received his MA from Marquette University.
He was a member of Holy Redeemer and the Knights of Columbus Council #10170.
Mr. Gass was a lifelong educator, who taught History and served as an Administrator in the Carman-Ainsworth Schools for 33 years.
Surviving are wife, Nancy Gass;
children, Lawrence (Bernadette) Gass, Mary Ellen Kendrick, Kathy (Tom) Kowalski, Tom (Pam) Gass, Susan (Brian) Clegg, Steven (Brenda) Gass and
nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
