WINSLOW, Katherine Elizabeth (Maplethorpe) “Kathy” – Of Durand, Born February 26, 1973, Died December 5, 2013 at Genesys Regional Medical Center.
Funeral service will be held at 12noon Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Pastor Louis Canaday officiating.
Burial in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Emmett, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Scott Winslow, which will be used for the Relay For Life Team. “Cancer Sucks!”
Visitation 3-8 p.m. Sunday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Katherine was born in Port Huron, MI, the daughter of William and Nancy Maplethorpe. She graduated from Yale High School in 1991 and from Michigan State University in 1995 with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. She went on to graduate from the Mid-Michigan Police Academy at Lansing Community College. She then went on to be a police officer with the City of Lansing for 10 years, where she proudly served as a road patrol officer as well as a Field Training Officer, Crisis Team member, Human Resource Officer and a Negotiator with the START Team. She then became Director of the Mid-Michigan Police Academy at Lansing Community College for the next five years before she was diagnosed with cancer. She took special joy and pride in the training of future law enforcement officers. It was her passion. She married Scott Winslow on June 13, 1998 in Port Huron , MI. They have two children, Kyle (12) and Jessica (9). She enjoyed nothing more in life than being a mother. She never missed a sporting event or activity. She has positively affected the lives of many people and will be dearly missed. She is survived by her husband Scott and children Kyle and Jessica of Durand, her parents William and Nancy Maplethorpe of Avoca and sisters Angela (Marvin) Gill of Howell and Rebecca (Evan) Ketover of Windermere, FL. She is also survived by her nieces Eva and Johanna Gill of Howell and cousins Brenda (Keith) Ski of Casco and Theresa (Michael) Millsap of Avoca. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Russel and Dorothy Maplethorpe and Maynard and Verna Hanneke. We would like to thank Dr. Rizwan Danish and the chemotherapy nurses at Genesys/Hurley Cancer Institute and the wonderful nurses of the 2nd floor at Genesys Hospital for their care and compassion.
