Gary Lynn Swosinski, 68, of Lapeer, formerly of Mukwonago, WI, Grand Blanc and Flint, died Thursday February 20, 2020. He was born August 16, 1951 in Sault Ste. Marie to parents Edward and Delores (Gilroy) Swosinski. Gary married Susan A. Selvidge on December 14, 1974 in Genesee.
Gary was an avid hunter and golfer. Gary had a natural gift for coaching and thoroughly enjoyed coaching Little League, soccer and baseball at Genesee Christian High School, and in later years helping with his grandson and granddaughter’s baseball/softball teams. Gary was involved with the Alcoholics for Christ program and had an integral part in bringing A.C. to the Mt. Morris and Lapeer communities.
Gary worked for 32 years as a logistics supervisor, for Roadway Express, retiring in 2007. After retiring from Roadway, he drove the bus for GLTA. As Gary enjoyed being with people, he said this was the best job he ever had.
Gary is survived by his wife of 45 years: Susan, children: Tanya (Brent) Meinburg of Davison, Brent Swosinski of Grand Blanc, grandchildren: Elizabeth, Porter, Kelsey, Carson, Ethan and Nathan, siblings: David (Carolyn) Swosinski of Montrose, Nance Bates of Beaverton, Marsha Kilbourn of Gladwin, mother-in-law: Shirley Selvidge, sister-in-law: Gayle (Mark) Heggan, brother-in-law: Paul Selvidge and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother: Stanley Swosinski as well as his afore mentioned parents.
His visitation will be 3:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Gary’s funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday February 25, 2020 at Hunters Creek Community Church, Lapeer, officiated by Pastor Joel Caminiti. The family will receive friends Tuesday morning before the service, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Cremation will follow services.
Gary fought hard after suffering complications following lung transplantation, U of M Hospital was a 2ndhome for Gary and Susan the past 2 ½ years. The family would like to extend a warm thank you to all the hospital staff for all of their professional and loving care. Susan and Gary have also been humbled by their friends showing of support through this journey.
