Diane Lee Childs, age 70 of Durand, passed away on Wednesday evening at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2015 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel with Rev. Steve Wood officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home for visitation Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Diane was born in Flint, MI on March 29, 1944, the daughter of William H. & Bertha D. (Wilson) Ellis. She attended Dye High School in Flint. On September 9, 1960 she married Gerald L. Childs in Flint and this past year they celebrated 54 years of marriage together. She attended the First Congregational Church of Durand, loved to golf, travel, camping, building the house up north, walleye fishing, and in the last years she attended car shows with her 2010 Camaro she called "Big Red". She loved being with her family the most. Diane had worked at Target and then Macy's, retiring in 2006. She was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother.
Diane is survived by her husband, Gerald, children: Terry Layton (Lori) Childs of Durand, Steven Wayne (Stacey) Childs of Swartz Creek, Kimberly Ann (Rodney) Nicol of Swartz Creek, Paul Edward Childs of Davison, 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, brother Jerry (Carlene) Ellis of Houghton Lake. Diane was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lenora Perry and Louise Elder and brother Edward Ellis. Memorials are suggested to the Durand Congregational Church.
