DEVINE, Thomas A. age 92, of Flushing, died at home on May 24, 2019. Committal services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2019, at Great Lakes National Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service at 12 noon at Montrose Family Worship Center. If desired, memorial contributions can be made in his name to Fisher House Michigan.

Tom was a man that is difficult to describe in few words. He was an honest, proud, dependable, and strong man. His dance moves were right up there with Chubby Checker and his clichés were on point with John Wayne. If you had the pleasure of meeting him and ever asked how he was, you know that he would reply with, “If I was doing any better, I’d worry.” He never met a stranger and enjoyed socializing with neighbors at River Valley RV Park in Gladwin, Flushing Estates, and the friends that became family through the Independent Order of Foresters. He was always tooling around in his shed, grooming his lawn or organizing his overwhelming collection of VHS movies.

He joined the Navy from 1943-1946 and served on the USS Hornet and Boxer as a radio gunner in WWII in the South Pacific. He married Norma, the love of his life, on January 22, 1949, and they just celebrated 70 years of marriage. Tom worked at Buick until retiring in 1982. He enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing. He offered his six grandchildren a great example of hard work and dedication. He provided wisdom and unconditional love. Simply to know him was to love him. He will be missed here with us, but we take comfort in knowing he is in heaven where he met his sister, Shirley, brother, Bob, and his parents, Arthur and Blenna.

Tom is survived by his wife, Norma; children, Thomas (Donna) Devine, Ron (Lori) Devine, and Barbara (Larry) Williams; grandchildren, Jenny Devine, Thomas Williams, Debra Heins, Little Ron Devine, Jessica Newbold, and Justin Oskey; great-grandchildren, Tommy, Collin, Kaitlin, Cameron, and Lindsey; great-great-granddaughter, Anna; and sister, Nora Hackett.
