COOLEY, Richard E. – Of Grand Blanc, age 81, died peacefully, with his family by his side on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc.
Memorial Visitation 9:30 a.m. and Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 19, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church, 746 South Saginaw Street, Flint, Pastor Paul Ytterock officiating.
Interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Fenton, Michigan, on Monday afternoon.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 North Rocky Point Dr, Tampa, FL 33607 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Dick was born on April 28, 1935, in Flint, Michigan, to Eugene J. and Helen L. Cooley.
He was a graduate of Fenton High School, Albion College and Duke University School of Law, where his activities included football, track, cross country and the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.
He practiced law for 56 years in Flint, serving as President of the Genesee County Bar Association, President of the Flint Estate Planning Council, Flint President of Child and Family Services of Michigan, and Fenton Township attorney.
Dick enjoyed sailing and skiing throughout his life. He cruised extensively in the Great Lakes and raced in the Saginaw Bay Yacht Racing Association. He was a member of the 70+ Ski Club Midwest Division, and most recently, at age 80, skied down his favorite run, Outback Jack, at Nub’s Nob in Harbor Springs with his grandsons.
Dick was a lifetime member of the Fenton Masonic Lodge, where his father and brothers were also members. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers David and James. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Wanda; son Scott (Daughter-in-law Lenore); daughter Courtney; grandsons David and Max; and brother John.
