BERENT, Susan Marie (Bentley) – of Alpena, MI, age 59, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2020 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, MI. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 1PM Thursday, July 9, 2020 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 North Dayton Street, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. The family will receive visitors from 11 AM Thursday until the time of the Mass. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Susan was born in Flint, MI on October 17, 1960, daughter of Wendell and Agnes Bentley. She graduated from Flushing High School in 1978. Susan married Marc Berent on January 17, 2004. She retired from Meijer where she spent many years as the store director in various locations. She loved living on the water, spending time on their boat with family and friends. Since retirement, she enjoyed gardening, hunting for sea glass and entertaining others. Marc and Susan enjoyed traveling together to warm climates and attending NASCAR races. Sue was an avid reader who loved to share her recommendations.
Susan is survived by her husband, Marc; father, Wendell; sister, Kari (Philip) Tomek; brother, Brian (Amy) Bentley; mother-in-law, Mary Berent; brother-in-law, Gregg Berent; sister-in-law, Pam (Sean) Saumier; beloved nieces and nephews, Ellen Tomek, Anna Morgan, Kyle Tomek, Tyler Bentley, Jessica Knoodle and Jacob Saumier; several great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Agnes Bentley and father-in-law, Thomas Berent.
