MacGREGOR, Richard Allison, MGYSGT – Of Burton, age 91, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 23, 2013 at his home, with family members present.
Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Great Lakes National Cemetery. The family with meet at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road at 12 p.m. for a procession to Great Lakes National Cemetery.
Richard was born in Flint, Michigan on August 19, 1921.
Richard served honorably and for his country, 30 years in the Marine Corps, March 1942- May 1972. He was highly decorated with awards and medals, and did his duty in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
After retiring, he earned a Master’s Degree (History), from the UM Flint.
He was well liked by all, spoke his mind, very generous when giving to charities, loved to travel, watch football and lived his life to the fullest.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clide and Vesta (Bostwick) MacGregor, a brother, Don, killed in action during World War II.
He will be greatly missed by his sons, Richard Jr. and Malcolm, both of Burton, MI; brother, Robert of Flint and Bruce of Tampa, FL; nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Betty J. Coleman (first wife), and all the people who’s lives he touched.
Our heart felt gratitude to the staff of Avalon Hospice, who provided professional and excellent care for Richard. Also, a very special thank you to Michelle Krampe, Sandy Fitz, Faith Johnson and Robin Ferrier (caregivers), who gave a part of their lives, to show love, care and kindness, caring for Richard.
