Louis F. Toma, age 80 of Durand, passed away on Thursday April 3, 2014 at Genesys Health Park Hospital. Mr. Toma was born in Flint, MI on March 8, 1934, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Bogoly) Toma. He atteded Corunna schools and on August 30, 1958 he married Elizabeth Pavlica at St. Mary's Catholc Church in Morrice. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, member of Morrice Knights of Columbus, usher's club and was a Eucharistic Minister and for many years was a volunteer at the Shiawassee County Fair. Louis was a farmer and worked for GM Buick in Flint for 31 years.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, four daughters; Elizabeth A. (Cal) Crutchleo of Ohio, Mary Jones of Owosso, Helen (Ken) Smolek of Corunna and Kathy Engel & Bruce Parker of Owosso, three sons; Frank (Bobbie) of Durand, Joseph (Lynette) of Durand and Anthony (Jennifer) of Ft. Myers, FL, 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, brother Steve Toma of Durand, sisters Mary (Lee) Shanayda of Mt. Clemens, MI, and Leona (John) Pavlica of Perry, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters Marjorie Hopp, Anna Pavlica and his parents.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Morrice on Monday April 7, 2014 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Fr. John Bosco will officiate with burial to follow at Bethany Cemetery in Morrice. The family will receive friends at Watkins Brothers Funeral Home in Perry on Saturday 6-8 PM and on Sunday 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A rosary will be prayed on Sunday evening by the Knights of Columbus at 7:30 PM. Memorials are suggested to St. Vincent DePaul or Knights of Columbus.
