Vandemark, Gary E., age 83, was ushered into the arms of Jesus on Sunday morning, August 18, 2024 at Regency Grand Blanc.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Charles Vandemark and brother, Gordon Vandemark.
Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Carol Vandemark; daughters, Emily (Michael) Steenwyk; Natalie (Clifton) Stokes; granddaughter, Natalie (Ethan) Ooms; grandsons Jason Steenwyk, Nathan Steenwyk, Jonathan Stokes, and Nicholas Stokes; great-granddaughter, Audrey Ooms and great-grandson Lucas Ooms; brother Robert (Brenda) Vandemark; sister, Glenda (Larry) Williams; and sister-in-law Judy Vandemark.
Gary was a kind, compassionate, and generous man. He loved to take care of “his girls.” He was a member of South Baptist Church and served his church faithfully. He was involved in AWANA as commander and Sparks director for over thirty years. Other areas that he served included directing bell choir, singing in the adult choir, serving on the Building and Grounds Committee, supervising the new sanctuary and children’s area, leading the senior group, and facilitating a Life Group. He was also a group leader in Bible Study Fellowship. Gary began his teaching career at Ainsworth High School leaving in 1970 to work for the MEA negotiating teachers’ contracts. After retiring from the MEA, he was the Dean of Vocational Education at Mott Community College for several years. One of the things he loved doing in his free time was playing golf.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the South Baptist Church Parking Lot Fund or The Salvation Army.
Visitation with the family will take place on 6-8pm Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Visitation 12noon Friday, August 23, 2024 at church until the time of the service.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held on 1pm Friday, August 23, at South Baptist Church, G4091 Van Slyke Road.
