Gary Charles Cooper, age 87 of Davison, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 25, 2019. He was born on June 13, 1932 in Flint to parents William and Irene (Forshee) Cooper. Gary proudly served in the US Army as a Medical Technician and was stationed in Alaska. He grew up at North Baptist Church and later on held memberships at Emmanuel Baptist and Faith Baptist Church. Gary served on the board at Carriage Town Ministries, worked to organize events for Big Brothers Little Brothers, and was a member of the Gideons. When he wasn’t counseling people, which he loved to do, Gary loved to build model airplanes, go target shooting and reload his own rounds. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Gary is survived by his children: Tammy L. (Barry) Howe, Gary L. (Alzina) Cooper, and Ann M. (Kevin) Gilkes; grandchildren: Dale (Jodi) Howe, Adam (Stephanie) Gilkes, Kristin Cooper, and Eric (Annika) Gilkes; step-grandchildren: Heather (Tyler) Lloyd and Jesse Clark; great grandchildren: Hayden, Kaelyn, Carter, Tucker, Caleb, and Emma; brother, Vern (Connie) Cooper; many nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was preceded in death by both parents; wife, Marilyn J. Cooper; brother, Doran Cooper. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at Faith Baptist Church, 7306 E. Atherton Rd., Davison. Pastor Shawn Kook officiating. Visitation will take place on Monday, July 29, 2019 from 1-8pm at Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, and again on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10am at church. Private interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Those desiring to make a memorial contribution may do so to Carriage Town Ministries of Flint. |
