Dennis went home to be with his Lord and Savior early Monday morning. He fought an incredibly difficult fight through the weekend, but was able to start the week off free of pain and greeted by the one who knows him best and loves him most. He also is in the company of those he loved and missed dearly. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, son and friend.
His heart was full of love and laughter for all those whose lives he touched.
D never met a stranger. From his sarcastic sense of humor to his ease with conversation, he made sure that all felt welcome in his presence. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends alike.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Haynes; his father, Earl Nielsen, his brothers, James Nielsen and Gaylen Haynes; his son, Travis and his cousin Terese.
He is survived by his wife, Valerie of Flint; daughter, Danielle and husband Peter; his grandchildren, Charlotte, Grace and Simon of Swartz Creek; step-mother, Gerry Nielsen of Fort Meyers, FL; brothers, Mark of Oscola and Matthew of Chesapeake, VA; his lifelong friend and soul sister, Karen Pick; many cousins and friends.
Dennis’ family would like to especially thank Melissa and Katrina for the care they showed him as his in home health care, and Dr. Tupper, Steven, and the staff at Hurley ICU for their care in his last days.
Visitation will begin 1 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2019 at West Court Street Church of God. The funeral service will start at 2 p.m.
There will be a dinner serves directly following.
