MINTO, Joyce Lorraine - of Davison, age 92, died peacefully on November 5, 2014 at home with her family by her side. Visitation will be12-4PM and 6-8PM Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. Services will be held 11AM Monday, November 10, 2014 at Davison United Methodist Church, 207 E. 3rd St., Davison with visitation at 10am prior to the service. Pastor Kevin Miles. Burial will follow at Davison Cemetery.
Joyce was born on January 20, 1922 to Joseph and E. Lois Harlan. She married Oren Minto on December 4, 1943. Joyce attended Davison High School and was the second person to be crowned Miss Davison. She worked for Stanley Home Products for many years putting on “Stanley Parties” and was adamant that there was no house cleaning job that couldn’t be done with either Stanley Degreaser or Germ-trol. Joyce enjoyed bringing music into the lives of others, either by singing or playing trombone in the Davison High School Pep Band, Alumni Band, and church. She also played the organ on Friday nights at the Davison Country Club for several years. As wife of a founder of the Davison Country Club, Joyce made many friends golfing, playing euchre, and planning social events. She was an active choir member at the Davison United Methodist Church for much of her life and was also a member of the UMC’s Naomi Circle. Joyce also enjoyed spending time at her cottage on Higgins Lake. Known for her exceptional fashion sense and outgoing personality, she loved to host parties for her friends and family.
Surviving are brother, Richard Harlan; grandchildren, Laurie (Matt) Daunt and Ryan (Michelle) Minto; great-grandchildren, Madeline, Lucas, Charles, Reagan and Bailey; daughters-in-law, Norma Prieur and Lisa Minto. She was preceded in death by husband, Oren; sons, Rodney and Roger; grandson, Bryan; brother, Norman “Buzz” Harlan. A special heartfelt thank you, to caregivers Mary Brazelle and Alice Kramer. Since Joyce always wanted children involved in music, a memorial fund is being created to donate musical instruments and lessons to children who otherwise couldn’t afford them.
