KRUTSCH, Annabelle “Penny” – of Lapeer, MI, went home into the loving arms of God on June 19, 2019. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 12 PM Friday, July 12, 2019 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 N. Dayton St., Davison, MI 48423; her beloved pastor, Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. The family will receive visitors from 11 AM-12 PM Friday, July 12, 2019 at the church.
Penny was nearly 99 years old. Actually “old” was a word never associated with Penny. When it came to her spirit, she was young in every way. She has lived an extraordinary life, a model for all who want to answer God’s call to live and walk in His love. Born in Antwerp, Ohio on September 4, 1920 to Arthur & Teresa (Kelly) Fisher, Penny grew up in Defiance, Ohio. In her early years, she helped her folks out on the farm, following in the footsteps of her three older sisters and one older brother. She felt blessed to have the parents she had, saying they gave their children a loving, secure home where the kids grew up knowing how to work hard and have fun. On June 22, 1944 she married Kirk Krutsch and embarked on her dream of building a happy home for her husband and children. She loved the fact that she got to live in Boston where her husband served in the US Navy and Ithaca New York as a young bride before returning to Defiance “to settle down.” As a young mother she mastered the work/life balance of homemaking while owning and operating her own small business. As her children grew she moved into a corporate setting and while she was a valued and dedicated member of the company, her work was never the center of her life. Family and faith were what mattered most to her, and she gave her family and her faith community her all. After living most of her adult life in northwestern Ohio (Defiance and Bryan), she and her husband Kirk enjoyed 20 wonderful years of retirement in Clearwater Florida. During that time she became especially active in her church, St. Michael the Archangel, playing many roles to support the growth of others in their faith journeys. When her husband passed away in 2000, she moved briefly to California and then in 2003 moved to Davison, Michigan to be near her daughter. She continued to live a vibrant life and especially cherished her involvement in her church, St. John the Evangelist, where she faithfully took communion to the sick and shut-ins until she was 94 years old. She loved watching her family grow over the years and thanked God every day for a life filled with the blessings of four children, 12 grandchildren, & 13 great-grandchildren. In celebration of her 95th birthday her children and grandchildren helped her accomplish her one remaining wish: to become a philanthropist! Aware that she had lived an extraordinarily blessed life, she wanted to be able to help others who labored under significant disadvantages and challenges. In her honor, the Penny Krutsch Fund for Women and Girls was established at the Community Foundation of Greater Flint. This gave her great joy and she gave generously to the Fund and was thrilled when others did as well. She loved knowing that even in death she would be making an important difference in the lives of families facing poverty and other hurdles. Her final years were fraught with health challenges but she faced them with courage and relentless optimism. She maintained her amazing mental sharpness until the final few days of her life. Special thanks are extended to her truly beloved physician, Dr. James Walter and nurse, Heather Glanton, who for 15 years were at her side as fierce advocates for her health and well-being. In her final days, Dr. Rita Lang, Sheila Powell, daughter Kathi, son in law Mark and daughter in law Lori supported her transition into Eternal Life.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses: David Krutsch, Paul & Kyle Krutsch, Kathi & Mark Horton and Tom & Lori Krutsch; 11 grandchildren, Corey, April, Kristin, Matthew, Julie, Rachel, Kasie, Alexis, Brooke, Natalie and Jak; 13 great-grandchildren, Trezden, Kiara, Makayla, Taylor, Mason, Arabella, Brayden, Fatiya, Ana, Gabriel, Juliet, Kara and Liam; and her cherished brother, Leo Fisher, who just turned 100. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Kirk; grandson, Jason; and sisters, Coletta, Mary Cecilia, Gertrude and Madonna.
It was her request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Penny Krutsch Fund of the Community Foundation (make checks to CFGF and on memo line write Penny Krutsch Fund; mailing address 500 S. Saginaw St., Suite 200, Flint MI 48502).
