NICHOLS, Reatha Rebecca Irene (Nelson) - Of Flint, age 97, died Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her family.
Funeral service will be held 11am Saturday, December 23, 2017 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Reverend David Lutz officiating.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation 1-3pm and 5-8pm Friday at the funeral home.
Reatha was born on July 15, 1920, the daughter of the late John and Daisy (Wrench) Nelson. On February 11, 1942 she married Darwin “Budd” Nichols in Owosso, Michigan. Reatha was a lifelong member of New Apostolic Church. She loved quilting and her in lifetime, crafted nearly 1000 quilts. She also enjoyed baking and her pies were her specialty. Reatha worked for Stafford and Jacksons in Atlas. Reatha along with her husband owned and operated Budd’s Place in Goodrich, St. Charles Bakery in St. Charles and also Grandmas Bakery in Davison. Reatha was a loving and nurturing mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Surviving are children, Darlene and husband Don Byers, Charlene and husband David Pierson, Shelly and husband Bill Chuleas;
8 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren;
and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Budd, daughter, Carolyn Tuttle, 7 brothers, 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
A very special thank you to her great-grandson, Jay for the countless hours of devoted loving care he gave his grandmother. Also, a special thank you to her great-granddaughter, Jenny for always being willing to step in and help whenever grandma needed her.
