Marilyn (Micki) Hoffman (McBride) passed away peacefully in her home in Grand Blanc, June 10, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.

Micki’s life was a testament to a life well lived. She was full of love, compassion and empathy that truly made a difference in the lives of those she touched. Micki had immense passion for her family, her community, and the environment. She accepted everyone with an open heart, open arms, and radiant smile! She made it her mission to listen and understand people’s perspectives, which helped her and others to grow personally and professionally.

Micki was born and raised in Bay City, Michigan. She attended T. L. Handy High School in Bay City and was actively involved in its student government. She attended Michigan State University, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Communications, General studies, and her teaching certificate. She married her husband Robert (Bob) Hoffman in 1957, started her teaching career at Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw and Bay City Central and Bay City Junior College. The family moved to Grand Blanc in 1969. At Grand Blanc High School, she taught multiple subjects including speech, debate, and reading. She also aided and mentored the drama department and Student Government. During this time while with the student council, she saw the growth of the Mock Trial program and later developed the student movement called Peaceful Solutions. When she retired, after 30 years of teaching. Micki created the Marilyn Hoffman Award, a scholarship for students at Grand Blanc High School.

With a love for the community, she started her second career that spanned 28 years with the Grand Blanc Township Board, serving first as a Trustee and then Supervisor. During this time she worked and led multiple committees and boards—including Parks and Recreation, Zoning Board of Appeals, and Planning Commission. One of her passion projects while at the Township was the preservation and restoration of the Historic Perry House on Perry Road in Grand Blanc. She was honored recently for her ongoing role there.
Micki was strong in her faith. She was an active member, elder and deacon at Flint’s First Presbyterian Church, where she would usher, read scripture, and support the homeless ministry.
Micki was a member of the Grand Blanc Chamber of Commerce, Regional Chamber of Commerce and did mediation for the Genesee Area Community Dispute Resolution Center, MEA, NEA, and the Democratic Party.
Micki was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob) Hoffman, and her daughter Lisa (Hoffman) Gumbleton (Rick). She is survived by her two sons, Robert (Rob) Hoffman, (Janis); Randy Hoffman, (Jennifer) and grandchildren, Calo, Emma and Colin, and her brother, Col. James McBride, (Carol).
