Schermerhorn, Doris J. – of Clio, age 68, went to her heavenly home on Monday, May 8, 2017, at McLaren of Flint. In accordance with Doris' wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 1 PM, Friday, May 12, 2017, at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Pastor Eddie Phillips officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Friday from 11 AM until the time of service at 1 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
Doris was born in Flint, Michigan to the late Hubert and Bessie (McGlone) Akins. She graduated from Bentley High School in 1967. Bessie was employed at GM for 12 years and worked in retail management for over 27 years. She enjoyed working with the public and the challenges that went with it. She received several awards and acknowledgments of her accomplishments.
Surviving are: Daughter, Bethany (Taylor) Huff and husband Sam; Grandchildren: Natalie TaylorLuce, Natalie Rain Huff, and Nathan Huff. She is also survived by some special cousins who were like sisters and brothers to her – Jan and Jim Engbloom and Ron and Vickie McGlone.
