Ann gently passed away from this life on Tuesday evening, January 3, 2012 with her family by her side. Age 94 years. She was born on August 4, 1917 in Maple Grove Township to the late Charles and Mary Eickholt. She was married to Arthur Gewirtz, he preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 2004. Ann was a graduate of St Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing. She put her nursing skills to use in various states while Art was in the service. After her nursing career ended she volunteered with the Chesaning Ambulance Service. She also taught religious education classes at Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
Ann was blessed with a large and loving family and is survived by four daughters and four sons; Mary Jo (Chris) Wood, Barb (Tom Sellers) Gewirtz, Deb (Marv) Henige, Sandy (Ron) Ebenhoeh, all of Chesaning, Fred (Elaine) Gewirtz of Sarasota, FL., Bernard Gewirtz of Pompano Beach, FL., Richard (Lori) Gewirtz of Fanwood, NJ., Joe (Diane Esmer) Gewirtz of Chesaning, all who feel blessed to have had such a humble, generous and kind mother. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Virginia (Bob) Lawton of Chesaning; a brother, Andrew Eickholt of Saginaw; sisters-in-law, Pat Eickholt of Owosso, Josephine Eickholt of California, Betty Eickholt of Saginaw.
Besides her husband Arthur she was preceded in death by a daughter, Pat Peters and a grandson, Jason Peters, also brothers, Bernard , Fr. Henry, Arthur, Joseph and Vincent Eickholt and a sister-in-law, Ann Eickholt.
Mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Chesaning. Fr. Richard Bokinskie will officiate with entombment in Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Walker-Martin Funeral Home, Chesaning on Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. and at church on Saturday after 9:00 am. The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm Friday. It is with great appreciation that Ann’s family thanks Union Court Assisted Living of St Charles, Oliver Woods of Owosso and Memorial Healthcare Hospice for the compassionate care she received.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in Ann’s memory be made to Memorial Healthcare Foundation ( 826 W. King St. Owosso, MI 48867 with checks to “Friends of Hospice”) or Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
Ann led a wonderfully full life centered around her devout faith. Her memory will be treasured forever. “Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.”- Mother Teresa. Let us pass on a kind word in remembrance of Ann Gewirtz.
