HETHERINGTON, Richard Gordon (Dick) – of Swartz Creek, age 77, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016 at McLaren Flint, with his wife, children and grandchildren by his side. Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, 9252 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, Michigan with The Rev. Fr. Gene D. Geromel, S.S.C. officiating. Burial follows at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Road, Grand Blanc where a masonic memorial service will be held 7:00 p.m. Tuesday and visitation at church from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday. Richard was born June 29, 1938 in Flint, Michigan the son of the late Lloyd Hetherington and Helen Dyer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Richard married Jo Ann Dubenion on April 24, 1965 in Flint, Michigan. From 1975 to 2001 he worked as a substance abuse counselor at the National Council of Alcoholism and Addictions (NCAA). Dick later was employed at the Brown and Hill Funeral Homes in Grand Blanc. He was a member of the Genesee Lodge 174 F&AM and the Elf Khurafeh Shrine. He played the banjo with the Flint Banjo Club and the Elf Khurafeh Shrine Banjo-tainers. Richard enjoyed golfing and bowling and loved going to U of M football games with his son. He loved his 1966 Corvair but most of all enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Surviving are: his wife of 51 years, Jo Ann Hetherington; son, Richard (Rick) Hetherington and wife Kim; daughter, Dyana Bauer and husband Dan; grandchildren, Ryan, Valerie, and Alana Hetherington and Chelsea (Aaron) Hodgeson, Jacqueline, Justin, Jeremy, and Jordon Rock, Amy and Steve Atkinson, Dan (Katie), and Jared Bauer; great-grandchildren, Jillian, Zayden, Audriena and Adan; brothers and sisters, Ron and Annie, Dan and Mary, Lloyd and Judy and Ken and Stephanie Hetherington, and Pat and Bill Kenworthy, and Karen Person. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and by sisters, Janet, Mona, Cathy, Peggy and Margaret. The family wishes to express a special thank you to the staff at McLaren 2 Central Acute Care and to Nathan RN on 10 South. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church.
