Anita Forrester Knopf, age 97, was born March 15, 1920 in Flint, Michigan. She attended public schools in Flint and graduated from Flint’s Hurley Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. She married Lyle S. Knopf of Flint on October 15, 1941. Mrs. Knopf held many different nursing positions during World War II in Texas and Michigan. Following the war, she volunteered to tutor immigrants allowing them to obtain their citizenship papers: read books to the vision impaired, worked with the Girl Scouts, and did private duty nursing. She was the author of two books, “The Laportes of Montreal and their American Cousins 1566-1981” and “Chere Marianne.” Through this she was able to raise funds to help children around the world and was placed on the national board for sponsorships by Plan International. At the age of 63 she bought and operated “The Book Stall” in Grand Blanc, Michigan, as well as writing book reviews for the Grand Blanc newspaper for many years. Her love of books was paramount throughout her lifetime and she had an in-house library in Palm City, Florida dedicated in her name. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, golfing, music and entertaining. She is preceded in death by her husband Lyle Knopf in 2014, and leaves their daughter Lori (James) Murray and foster daughter Suzanne (Alenko) Radovic as well as grandchildren: Steven Lyle Castle, James Eric Murray (Melanie), Anita (Mario) Giambattista, Adrian-Lyle Radovic and great-granddaughter Isabell Castle. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc, Michigan. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1pm. Private inurnment at Evergreen Cemetery. |
