Joan Lorraine (Krawczyk) Barber, age 58, of Swartz Creek, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, December 5th, 2018 at McLaren Hospital in Flint, Michigan from complications of heart surgery. Her family was at her side. Joan was born on Wednesday, March 16th, 1960 to Marcel and Marjorie (Arnwine) Krawczyk in Bay City, Michigan and spent her early years in Pinconning, Michigan. The family moved to the Flint area in the late 1970s.
A kind, caring, intuitive and gracious person, Joan was a daughter, mother, grandmother, aunt, great aunt and sister. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Joan always had a moment to talk to people and have meaningful, in-depth and often humorous discussions. She had an unusual ability to look at seemingly useless items and repurpose them into new, interesting and even artistic creations. Joan enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She also fostered cats from a local animal shelter and fed the neighborhood raccoon.
Preceded in death by her parents Marcel and Marjorie Krawczyk and a sister, Dianne (Krawczyk) Bailey, Joan is survived by her sons John (Jenni) Barber of Lapeer, Michigan, Jesse (Shelly) Barber of Swartz Creek, Michigan and Jack Barber also of Swartz Creek, Michigan and her grandchildren Carmyn Barber of Lapeer, Michigan and Daniel and Zack Barber, both of Swartz Creek, Michigan. Joan is also survived by two brothers George Krawczyk of Cheboygan, Michigan, and Paul (Teresa) Krawczyk of Flint, Michigan and a sister Linda (Mark) Simon of Indian River, Michigan. Additionally, Joan is survived by nieces and nephews Katie (Rorik) Bailey, Cory Mitchell-Bailey & Bryce Kester all of Springville, New York, David Krawczyk of Flint, Michigan, Melissa Behrmann of Ritzville, Washington and Chris (Jessica) Behrmann of Indian River, Michigan. Joan’s extended family includes Madison and Elise Drake and Olivia Lewinski all of Lapeer, Michigan and Tonja (DeRon) Robinson of Taylor, Michigan.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14th as well as prior to the 1:00 p.m. Memorial Service on Saturday, December 15th at Swartz Funeral Home on Hill Road in Flint. Internment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Grand Blanc, Michigan following the memorial service.
