HANDY, Sally Lou. – of Clio, age 84, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Gross Assisted Living of Clio. Funeral services will be held 11AM Friday, March 10, 2017 at Messiah Lutheran Church. 520 Butler St. – Clio. Pastor Erik Cloeter officiating. Private burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Family will receive visitors at the church on Thursday from 4PM until 8PM and on Friday from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM. Memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church or U of M Leukemia Research.
Sally was born May 25, 1932 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late Ivan and Marjorie (Rockwell) Handy Sr. She was employed with Michigan Bell Telephone for 33 years. Sally was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the Flamingo Garden Club of Mt. Vernon Condo. Over the past 34 years, Sally served on several committees. She loved to travel – especially to Hawaii to visit her friends, Frank and Sherry. She also enjoyed gardening, attending retiree luncheons, her cats, and old westerns. Sally also enjoyed movie nights with her friends.
Surviving are: Brother, Ivan “Sid” (Carolyn) Handy Jr.; Nephews: Charles and Michael Handy; Cousins: Larry and Marjorie Handy; Loving friend, Patricia Handy; Dear friend, Sherry Chong. Sally was preceded in death by her cousins: Don Liefboer, Marilyn Lane, and Orson Handy; Special friend of 40 years, Onalee Jewel; Dear friend, Rev. Frank Chong. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at Gross Assisted Living in Clio, and Angelic Heart Hospice for all their love and care. Also, thank you to pastor Erik Cloeter, Vicar Josh Schmidt, and the many other friends that visited Sally during her illness.
