PETIPRIN, James Ernest – Of Swartz Creek, age 65, died Thursday, December 19, 2013 at his residence.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2013
at St. Mary Queen of Angels Church, 4413 South Morrish Road, Swartz Creek, Father Daniel Kogut officiating.
Cremation will take place following the Mass.
Visitation Saturday 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 5-8 p.m., Sunday 5-8 p.m. at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Petiprin will be at the church from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the Mass.
James was born in Flint, Michigan on January 19, 1948. He was a resident of Swartz Creek all of his life and learned his love of the land from his grandparents, spending his summers in Chesaning.
He graduated from U of M Flint with a Bachelor of Business.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserves as a Drill Sergeant.
On December 27, 1973 he married Amy Aslin and they celebrated 39 years of marriage.
Mr. Petiprin was owner of Petiprin’s Christmas Tree Farm for over 20 years.
He was a millwright at Chevrolet in the Hole for 40 years, retiring in 2006. Following retirement he worked as a Welding Instructor for Genesee Area Skill Center for six years.
The Jim Petiprin Positive Community Award was created in his honor by the G.A.S.C., of which he was the inaugural recipient.
He was an avid reader and had a passion for Astronomy, Math and Physics; loved crossword puzzles, the outdoors and working on projects in the barn.
He always had a friendly smile and enjoyed sharing a good laugh with family and friends.
Surviving are wife, Amy;
three children, Amy (Jeff) Frost,
James Petiprin and Jaclyn (Brian) Holmen;
8 grandchildren, Sophia, Carter, Nina, Marcella, Annie, Eriksen, Phillip and Dexter;
three sisters, Dianne Carrier, Deborah Petiprin and Carol
(Roland) Neelands;
one nephew, Gordon Neelands.
He was preceded in death by parents, Gene and Alvera.
