RORER, James – Of Flint, age 88, died Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Woodhaven Senior Community.
Visitation 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Funeral service will be held at 12 noon Thursday, October 18, 2018
at the funeral home, Dan Hayes officiating.
Burial in Flushing Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the Genesee County Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.
James was born in Danbury, North Carolina on August 10, 1930, the son of the late Eva and Joe Rorer.
On September 8, 1951, he married Virgie Meredith in North Carolina and they were married for 63 years.
James knew his Lord and Savior.
He had many passions in life; carpentry, fishing, hunting, gardening and storytelling. He was a fan of sports, especially Flushing Volleyball.
He was so proud of all of his grandchildren graduating from college.
James loved and supported his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all their accomplishments.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Rorer retired from Chevy Metal Fab with 34 years of service and was a member of UAW Local #659.
Surviving are children, Teresa (Doug) Broom and Cynthia (Jerry) Wheatley;
grandchildren, Megan Broom Champine, Garrett James (Katie) Broom, Nathaniel James Wheatley and Meredith Wheatley;
great-grandchildren, Cole Douglas and Tyson James Champine and Laura Susan Broom and Jack Rorer Broom;
many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie, on September 17, 2014; his parents and siblings.
