Root, DeVere E. -- Age 87, of Swartz Creek, died September 13, 2018. Funeral services will be held 5 PM Tuesday, September 18, followed by a Masonic Service under the auspices of Swartz Creek Masonic Lodge #458, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel. Our temporary location at Hill Creek Church, 5363 Hill Rd., Swartz Creek (Mundy Township). Visitation will be at 3PM until time of service at Hill Creek Church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of donors choice.

DeVere was born March 26, 1931 in Owosso the son of Elmer and Lillian (Adams) Root. He married Shirley A. Dodge in Owosso on September 26, 1950. He was employed as a Die Maker with GM for 35 years at the Grand Blanc Plant. DeVere as a long time member of the Swartz Creek Masonic Lodge #458 where he served as Worshipful Master and was recognized as the Mason of the Year. He served as a Baseball Umpire for both Flint Area High School and City Leagues. DeVere and Shirley served as Foster Parents for many years. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing.

Surviving are: wife, Shirley; children, Kelly Barrett, Patrick Root, and Gary Root; grandchildren, Michael Barrett, Jennifer (Shay) Parham, and Timothy Root; step grandchildren, Paul Jr. and Beth; great grandchildren, Rylan and Jenson Parham; brother, Marvin Root.
