Young Zella accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at the tender age of 12. Zella was musically inclined. She played the piano, organ and also beat the drums. Even though she could play these instruments, her utmost desire was to play the guitar. With her faith and belief that she could do all things through Christ; Zella fasted and prayed that the Lord would teach her how to play the guitar without taking a lesson. She started playing the guitar between the ages 13 and 14 and has been playing ever since. During that time at the Holy Convocation, services were held all night. Zella played the guitar during the midnight tarrying and prayer services where the saints would pray and praise God all night long. She played along with Elder Eutaw Smith. Zella moved to Flint, Michigan in 1953. Upon arriving to Flint, she united with the Elm Park Church of God In Christ where Supt T. R. Harris was the founder and pastor. Later that year, Zella was united in holy matrimony to Prezel Gamble.
