WYKES, Doris L. - born March 5, 1919 in Oak Grove, Michigan to Elbert and Rose Peckens Slider, died January 17, 2013 at Caretel Inns of Linden. On November 9, 1940 she married Harry Wykes taking up residence in Fenton. Doris was a graduate of Linden High School and Eastern Michigan University and taught second grade in Linden for 14 years. She was an active member of Fenton United Methodist Church and Faith Circle. She and Harry traveled throughout the fifty states, many of the Canadian Provinces, Great Britain, Europe and then took work mission trips to Bolivia, Finland, India and Kenya. Waiting for her in glory were her parents, husband, son-in-law Floyd Hawke, grandson Dennis Hawke, infant great-granddaughter Sara Marie Heath, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Mourning her loss are her daughter Rev. Reva (Jerry) Daniel of Wayland, her son David Wykes of Byron, 5 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, 1 brother Lyle Slider of Pinckney, 1 sister-in-law Velma (Charles Berger) of Burton and many other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 East Broad St., Linden, with Rev. Hayden Carruth officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until the time of service. Those desiring may make contributions in her memory to United Methodist Committee on Relief or Avalon Hospice.
