Rita was born in Flint on December 1, 1915, the daughter of the late John and Mary McGinnis and resided in Flint all of her life.
Rita graduated from St. Michaels High School, Class of 1934 and Borgess School of Nursing in Kalamazoo. Rita was an RN for many years at St. Joseph Hospital in Flint. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and Altar Society. She was selected the Irish Mother of the year in 1988.
Everyone who came to know Mom also came to love her. Mom had a beautiful IRISH smile, a constant twinkle in her eyes and a wonderful sense of humor. She was never shy to have a conversation and always made a point to have everyone around her feel comfortable. Among her many gifts were a gentle, giving and forgiving spirit, a silent but generous contributor to many charities; a loving caregiver, strong belief in the Catholic faith, and unconditional love for her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She set a wonderful example for her children and we were the luckiest to be blessed with such a wonderful Mother.
Surviving are children, Judy (Chuck) Gafney, Nick (Jill) Sheeran and Mike Sheeran;
grandchildren, Patrick (Diane) Gafney, Jennifer (Chuck) Roy, Matthew (Kellie) Sheeran, Brian Sheeran, Nick Sheeran; great-grandchildren, Corby Gafney, Keegan Gafney, Isabella Roy, KC Roy, Ben Sheeran and Mallory Sheeran;
