Stuart Edward Soper
Age 86 of Durand, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019 at McLaren-Flint.
Funeral Services will be held 11am Thursday January 10, 2019 at the Durand Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Danny Bledsoe and Pator Michael McCarty officiating with military honors to follow. Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2pm to 8pm.
Stuart was born May 17, 1932 in Flint, the son of Howard and Bernice (Chapman) Soper.
He graduated from Durand High School; Class of 1950. Stuart was a member of the Durand Church of the Nazarene.
He married Anna Mae Jayne on August 21, 1954, while serving his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Era. She passed away on August 31, 1985.
On June 27, 1992 Stuart married Elaine Rita Weber in Durand.
Stuart retired from the United States Post Office as a rural mail carrier after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Lions Club and enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and spending time at the family cottage in West Branch.
Stuart is survived by his wife Elaine; children Mark (Cheryl) Soper, Paul (Therese) Soper and Margaret Soper; step-children Paula (Bill) Burtch, Joan (Jeff) Brands, Lorraine (Greg) Anderson and Jane (Brent) West; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings Jane (Jim) Watters and Tom (Mary) Soper; several nieces and nephews and many other loving family and friends.
He was predeceased by first wife Anna Mae and his parents.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Durand Church of the Nazarene or the Durand Depot.
