HASSBERGER, James Arthur – Of Grand Blanc, age 92, died Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Genesys Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness, just short of his 93rd birthday.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 11824 South Saginaw Street in Grand Blanc, Father Gary Koenigsknecht officiating.
Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the VA.
Visitation 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Mr. Hassberger will be at the church from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of the Mass.
James was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 22, 1923, the son of the late Alger and Anna (Bertram) Hassberger.
He married Alice Dunn on June 21, 1947 and they were married 59 years.
He served his country in the U.S. Air Corps as Captain. James was particularly proud of his service in both the Army Air Corps and Airforce during World War II (Pacific) and Korea. He was decorated and wounded during his service.
He served his community through DeMolay, Civitan and Habitat for Humanity. He was also active in St. Joseph Guild, where he was instrumental in establishing a number of guilds throughout Michigan.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Although he was forever proud of his military service and successful career as a Salesman/Manager he was most satisfied with his family, all of whom have established successful careers and will miss him dearly.
Surviving are five children, James Hassberger and wife Jeanne Harvey,
Carol and husband Carl Tweedt,
Jeff and wife Sharon Hassberger,
Laura and husband Robert Allis,
Jere and wife Jill Hassberger;
9 grandchildren, Andrew and Sarah Tweedt,
Laurel Hassberger and fiance’ Andrew,
Jeffrey Hassberger,
Heather and husband Justin Titre,
Katie Booth and husband Chris Allen,
Melissa and husband Drew Whalen,
Audra Allis and Cora Hassberger;
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice on January 10, 2006; sisters, Isabel Hassberger and Elizabeth Harrison; brother, Ernest Hassberger.
