SMITH, James R., Sr. – of Burton, age 80, passed away November 28, 2017 at McLaren-Flint. Cremation has taken place and a private Memorial Service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Genesee County.
James was born in Rome, Georgia on August 22, 1937, son of the late James Hubert and Ida Mae (Windom) Smith. He married Denise (Anderson) Tremewan on March 20, 1993. James loved to play poker at the Davison Senior Center, which he missed the last couple of years to do illness. He enjoyed woodworking. James worked as a Railroad Engineer and then worked in Maintenance at Davison Community Schools.
James is survived by his wife, Denise; children, James R.(Laurie) Smith, Jr., JoAnn (Paul) Smith and Jeffery (Colette) Smith; stepson, Gabe (Mari Petz) Tremewan; brothers, Dan (Gayle) Smith and David (Cheri) Warren; sisters, Elizabeth (Dwayne) Ivie, Faye (Bob) Belford, Debra Warren and Sherry Warren; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James Hubert-Smith; mother, Ida Mae (Red) Warren; sister, Kathe (Ivan) Seeley.
