SNYDER, John (Jock) Phillip -- Son of Louis Snyder and Cora Johnson Snyder. Born July 9, 1931 in Lansing MI, died June 30, 2015 at McLaren Regional Medical Center.
Funeral mass will be celebrated 11 AM Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Fr. Steve Anderson celebrant. Visitation will be held 3-8 PM Wednesday at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint. Visitation will also be held 10 AM - 11 AM Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Flint Salvation Army, Food Bank of Eastern Michigan or Catholic Charities.
John experienced much of what the world had to offer. He was born in the house he grew up in and graduated from Lansing Sexton High School. He continued to maintain the friendship of many of his class of ’49 schoolmates. He was a dad, grandfather and great-grandfather who never missed the opportunity to attend their activities. He also was never one to miss a party and/or help to organize one and was a friend to all. He loved to travel including China and southern Europe. He was known to share his experience of snow skiing the Alps and water skiing the Mediterranean on the same trip. His love of snow skiing included many trips with the Schussmeisters both to the western US and northern Michigan. In between were Colorado river rafting and a tour of Ireland. Sporting activities were also ever present. He ran the Crim 10 mile road race and pitched a perfect game in the old Flint Blooperball league. He was a MSU Spartan and spent many Saturday afternoons in East Lansing. There was continual support for local charities; Mott Community College, and the Flint Area Association of Realtors. His work experiences included Aerospace engineering and appraiser owner of Snyder Real Estate associates for the last 40 years. He enjoyed making and sharing his homemade wine which was brewed from the kitchen of his office.
Surviving are children, Mike and Maureen Snyder, Greg and Mary Ann (Snyder) Tribble, and John Snyder (Jamie Frechette). Grand children, Megan Snyder and fiancé Jameson Rucker, William Chuff, Michael (Emily) Chuff, Brian Chuff and fiancée Staci Spare, Aimee Snyder and Jeremy Elizabeth (Snyder) Boggs. Great-grandchildren, Toni and Alexis Chuff, Dominic Chuff, Tyler Wedding, Andrew and Luke Boggs and Rex Rucker. He is also survived by the Stokes and Newman nieces and nephews. The number of friends that John made and kept are immeasurable. Special thanks to McLaren CCU staff and Kathy Snyder.
John was preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Pauline Stokes, Katherine Newman and brother Louis “Bud” Snyder, and mother of his children Beverly Snyder. Friends may share an online tribute on the obituary page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
