WINTERS, Richard Bruce “Dick” – of Davison, age 81, passed away at his home on July 13, 2016. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 12 PM Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Richard B. Winters, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be 10 AM – 12 PM Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hurley Children’s Miracle Network or Salvation Army of Flint.

Dick was born on January 6, 1935, at Hurley Hospital in Flint, Michigan. Even in those early days, Hurley Hospital was performing miracles and saving the lives of underweight babies who were born before their appointed time. Dick was the son of Clair and Marguerite (Woody) Winters. Dick was a 1953 graduate of Flint Central High School. He attended General Motors Institute in conjunction with his training as a Toolmaker at Buick Motor Division of G.M. He later transferred to Experimental Engineering at AC Spark Plug where he trained many young apprentices in the trade of Model making. Dick retired from AC in 1994 after 42 years of service with General Motors. He married his high school sweetheart, Norma (Kleinow) Winters on September 17, 1955, and they shared 60 wonderful years together. Dick was loved and respected by all who knew him because of his giving nature and a desire to help others. Dick was a member of the Flint Genealogical Society, the Davison Historical Society and the Gleaners. He was a construction captain during the building of the Davison Playscape in 1997 and continued on as Chair of the Volunteer Playscape Maintenance Committee for the next 17 years along with his late friends Bill Johnson, Roger Tilley and Patrick Bernethy. Wherever there was a need in the community, Dick was ready to lend a hand to any project. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but if God ever needs a hand with one of his projects, we know that Dick will be ready and willing to help out.

Dick is survived by his wife, Norma; sons Richard (LaDonna) Winters of Kingwood TX, Ronald (Vicky) Winters of Fenton, MI, Russell (Cindy) Winters of Davison Twp.; grandchildren Jessica Winston of St. Louis, MO, Chelsea (Jeffrey) Duncan of Flushing, MI, Amanda (Ryan) Livezey of Houston, TX, Noelle (Colin) Goss of Kingwood, TX, Wesley Winters of Kingwood TX; great grandchildren, Lauren Winston of St. Louis, MO, Brighton and Pierson Goss of Kingwood, TX; sister, Sharon Petersen, of Royal Oak, MI. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nancy Coneeney, of Virginia Beach, VA and a beloved grandson, Richard Bruce Winters III of Kingwood, TX. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses and medical staff at Hurley Medical Center who cared for Dick during his recent procedures there and the doctors and staff at the Genesys Hurley Oncology center. Also, thank you to the many nurses and support staff at Heart to Heart Hospice who helped us through a sad time.
