SCHWEITZER, James Max – of Clio, age 86, died Tuesday, August 23, 2016 in Sanford, NC. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Bethany United Methodist Church, 353 E. Vienna St. in Clio. Rev. LuAnn Rourke officiating. Interment to follow in Flint Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Tuesday from 6-8PM, Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8PM and at the church on Thursday from 10 AM until time of services at 11 AM. A memorial service by the American Legion Post #158 will be at Wednesday 7 PM at the funeral home. Contributions in his memory may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, Clio Veterans Park or the American Cancer Society.
Max was born January 23, 1930 in Davison, MI to the late Andrew and Mary (Watkins) Schweitzer. He was a resident of Clio since 1954. Max served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953. He married Louanne Lee Carter on June 26, 1954 in Clio. Mr. Schweitzer retired from Fisher Body Plant #1 in 1988 with 39 years seniority. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Charter member of the Clio Lions Club having served as Past President and Zone Chairman, Neeley LaBar American Legion Post #158, Past Commander, Adjutant and County Commander of American Legion, Bennett VFW Post #1452, 40 & 8 Post #1116, 6th District of American Legion-Finance Office, and Vienna Township Planning Commission and Board of Appeals.
Surviving are: Wife, Louanne; Children: Brenda (Jack) Bost, Kenda (Rob) Winkler, Linda (George) Hart, all of NC; Grandchildren: Tara Hart (fiancé Peyton Miller), Derek (Lindsay) Cascarelle, Staci (Pete) Sansone, Kevin Winkler, and Kris Winkler; great grandson, Steven Sansone; several nieces and nephews.
