Nobles, Thomas Westfall (Tom) of Flint has gone to join his bride in heaven. A memorial service will be held 11 am, Friday, August 28, 2015 at Court Street United Methodist Church, 225 W. court St. Flint, MI. Family will receive visitors from 2-7 pm, Thursday, August 27 at the church. Pastor Jeremy Peters officiating. Tom was born January 23, 1925 in Muskegon, MI the son of the late Elmo S. and Marie (Westfall) Nobles. The Nobles family moved to Hart, MI when Tom was in the 5th grades where he worked planting fruit trees for the local farms. He was on the budding crew from age 12 until he graduated high school. Tom graduated from the University of Michigan in 1947 with an Aeronautical Engineering Degree. While attending the U of M, he joined the ROTC and served our country in the US Navy and the Naval Reserve. He received his commission as Ensign July 1945. Tom attended Destroyer Naval School in Norfolk, VA and was in Philadelphia on VJ Day. He started his career with Hamilton Standard Propellers Division of United Air Craft Corporation in Hartford, CT., moving to Bendix Products Division in South Bend, Indiana. Tom was employed in the defense divisions in these companies based on the federal governments demand for aircrafts for 12 years. The family moved to Deer Park Long Island, NY in 1959 for Tom’s new position with Huyck System’s Division, a supplier of General Electric. He obtained his Professional Engineer License from the State of Indiana in Mechanical Engineering at the time. Tom moved to Milwaukee, WI in 1960 to begin his employment with AC Spark Plug. He began his career in Flint, MI December 12, 1960 at the new engineering plant located at Davison Rd. and Averill St. He was responsible for bringing air craft products from Milwaukee to Flint. Tom later became involved with instrument cluster panels, speed odometer and product engineering. He moved into OEM sales (original equipment manufacturing) calling on Cadillac Division in Detroit, Diesel Allison in Detroit and Indianapolis, retiring from this area August 1, 1988 with 28 years of service with General Motors. Tom is a member of Court St. United Methodist church and was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the retired men’s fellowship group. He attends Life Long Learning at Mott College and he was active with the Boy Scouts when his children were young. He became actively involved with the Flint Community Players in 1963 and has continued his dedication with the Players serving as Chairman of the Board and Fundraising Chair during the period that the building was being expanded. The most recent addition was named the Bea and Tom Nobles Performance Hall in their honor. After his retirement he worked at Perani Arena, Whiting Auditorium, elections positions and for 2 U.S. Census. Tom is survived by his son David and wife Jeanette Nobles of New Era, MI, daughter Nancy and husband William Szikszay of Otisville, MI and son Brian and wife Penny Nobles of Ft. Myers, FL; son-in-law Jim and wife Lynn Peters of Davison, MI; 4 grandchildren Michele and husband Mike Clark of Swartz Creek, Jennifer and husband Joe Mead of Eagle, and Thomas and wife Elizabeth of St. Petersburg, FL, and Kasey Nobles of Ft. Myers, FL; great grandchildren Tyler and Mason Mead and Aaron Clark, and many extended family members. Tom was preceded in death by his wife Beatrice “Bea” September 23, 2009, daughter MariLou Peters in 1992. Many thanks to the staff at Sugarbush for taking care of Tom like he was a member of their own family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Flint Community Players, Court Street United Methodist Church, the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice.
