Esther May Briggs
Age 83 of New Lothrop passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at her home.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Nelson-House Funeral Homes New Lothrop Chapel. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 8:00pm on Saturday, March 12.
Esther was born on June 2, 1932 to Robert and Florence (Rueter) Simmons in Kalamazoo. She graduated from Owosso High School with the Class of 1950. On September 20, 1952, she married Lloyd Briggs in Owosso.
Esther was a homemaker for most of her life. She was a member of the New Lothrop Church of the Nazarene. Throughout her life, she enjoyed quilting and sewing. She was very welcoming and willing to open her home, especially to foster children and foreign exchange students. She also loved her dog.
Esther is survived by her husband, Lloyd; her children, Linda (David) Hafey, Dawn Briggs, Jerry Briggs, Patty (Marlin) Miller, and Mary (Joe) Angst; her grandchildren, John (Andrea) Newvine, Renee (Mark) Bishop, Stephanie (Jon) Taylor, Jennifer Spencer, Roseann Garcia, Christopher Morgan, Chelsea Miller, and Joely, Abbey, and Jared Angst; her 9 great-grandchildren, and her 1 great-great-grandchild.
She is predeceased by her parents; her son, Michael Briggs; and her siblings, Raymond Simmons, Donald Simmons, Leona Walworth, Irene Simmons, and Margaret Schmidt.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the family for charities.
