BURTON, Donald C. - Of Flint, age 89, passed from this world on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Easter Seal Society of Genesee County.
Visitation 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Don was born to Darwin and Alice (Kemp) Burton in Gaines, Michigan on February 20, 1924.
He grew up in Swartz Creek and Montrose, graduating from Montrose High School Class of '42.
Don married Dorothy Caudle on September 25, 1948.
He worked for Chevrolet for 33 years as a Senior Buyer in Purchasing, retiring January 1, 1980. After his retirement, Don continued working at Carpenter Enterprises until 1989.
Don lived his strong work ethic and was devoted to his family and friends. He volunteered as a Big Brother and a Boy Scout leader, attending two Jamborees.
Don enjoyed fishing at Camp David on Lake Nameigos in Canada twice a year for 32 years. In addition to his family, Don's greatest love was living on Lake Leelanau. His happiest times were spent puttzin’ in the yard and cooking big dinners for his family.
He was a member of the Mayflower Society, Flint Genealogical Society, Montrose Area Historical Association, Swartz Creek Historical Society, V-8 Engine Retirement Group, and Retired Men's Fellowship of Greater Flint.
Don’s strong character and honest values are his legacy to his family, including Don's beloved wife of 65 years, Dorothy (Caudle);
son, Don;
daughter, Debbie (Curt) Collier;
grandchildren, Nicolle (Patrick) Holloway
Matthew (Vika) Burton,
Jason Caya (Janet Van De Winkle),
Christopher Caya (Megan Ashley), Courtney Collier, Christin (Mark) Spender and Chad Collier;
great-grandchildren, Brendon and Mattalyn Soth, Maksim and Alexander Burton and Pearson, Scarlett, Hudson and Georgia Spender;
brother, Charles (Dorlee) Burton;
sister-in-law, Verlie Monroe;
brother-in-law, James (Wilma) Caudle and special cousin, Irene Niles; nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Linda Lynch Burton.
