LAFERNEY, William M. - Of Flint, age 87, died Friday, October 20, 2017 at Genesys Regional Medical Center.
Funeral service will be held 1pm Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Pastor David Chittenden officiating.
Burial in Crestwood Cemetery.
Visitation 1-4pm and 6-8pm Monday and 12 Noon Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Contributions may be may to Great Lakes Baptist Temple.
William was born in Flint on June 12, 1930, the son of David and Linda LaFerney. He retired from Chevrolet Manufacturing and was a member of UAW Local 659. Bill attended Burton Senior Center Activities and was a member of Great Lakes Baptist Temple. He was the biggest Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and Michigan fan. Bill loved to play golf and go dancing with Sophie. He had a great sense of humor and had strong values and morals. Bill was the pillar of the family and the best Dad ever.
Surviving are longtime companion, Sophie Koenig of Flint;
sons, Doug (Debi) LaFerney of North Carolina and Steve LaFerney of Flint;
grandchildren, Kristy, Kari, Richard Jr., Mike, Future, Jimmie and Donny;
and many great-grandchildren;
siblings, Barb Schuermann of Flint and David (Jackie) LaFerney of Tennessee;
and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Susan LaFerney, son, Richard LaFerney, daughter-in-law, Scharry LaFerney, great-granddaughter, Faith LaFerney, sister, Niece Spence and sister, Joyce Hickman.
