WEST, John D. “Jack” – Of Flint, age 81, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Genesys Regional Medical Center.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11am Monday, April 23, 2012 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton,
Father Gary L. McInnis officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
Cremation has taken place.
Jack was born in Flint on September 17, 1930. He attended Atherton High School and enjoyed a distinguished 37 year career at Consumers Power Company. On July 14, 1967, he married Smilia “Sammy” Watson. Jack was one of the founders of the Greater Flint Hockey Association and was also a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer.
Jack was a devoted family man. In 1967, he married his beloved wife, Sammy Watson. He and Sammy would raise five children, daughter Kim Herr and husband Jeff of Joplin Missouri, son Rick West and wife Deborah of Flint, Michigan, son Scott, Jeff and wife Wendy of Missouri and Randy Watson and wife Laura of Georgia.
His compassion, humor and love will be deeply missed by his great-grandchildren, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and friends.
He is survived by his brother Jerry West and wife Helen of Davison.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sammy, son Scott and brothers, Don and Darwin.
