Josephine E. Kozumplik, “Jo” passed away Wednesday, May 8 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be Friday, May 10 from 12-1 p.m. immediately followed by the funeral mass at St. Robert Catholic Church, 310 N Cherry St., Flushing MI with Fr. Anthony officiating. Interment will be at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Jo was born October 20, 1928, in Elsie, MI. She married Vaclav James Kozumplik on May 14, 1955, and was a devoted wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother, aunt, niece, cousin and friend. Her favorite activities included spending time with family, baking kolaches and other Czech heritage foods, spending time at the family cottage and singing. Over her lifetime, Jo performed at many weddings and polka festivals, and sang with the Friendship Club Czech Singers and Lennovanka Czech Brass Band, with whom she recorded a CD. Jo and her husband were members of the Swartz Creek Friendship Club and St. Robert Catholic Church in Flushing. Preceding her in death were her husband Jim in 2016, and oldest daughter, Carla Maughn in 2012. Surviving are: sons, Brian (Rhonda) Kozumplik; and John (Laurie) Kozumplik; daughters, Lisa (Robert) Allen; and Janice (Bart) Baker, and special daughter Becky (Myron) Erexson; 11 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial contributions be made to Hospice House of Shiawassee County or the American Heart Association.
