GUTGESELL, George – of Davison, age 81, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Hurley Medical Center. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Saturday, November 2, 2024 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 5073 Daly Blvd., Flint, MI 48506; Rev. Jeffrey Frechette, Sr. officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Davison Cemetery. The family will welcome visitors from 3-7 PM on Friday, November 1, 2024 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, MI 48423. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Saturday at St. Mark Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association, in George’s memory.
George was born on May 26, 1943, in Flint, MI, to the late Arthur and Edith (Musgrave) Gutgesell. On August 4, 1973, he married Diane Angell at Trinity Lutheran Church in Davison, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love and shared memories. George pursued his passion for learning by first earning his associate degree from Mott Community College, followed by a bachelor's degree from Ferris State University. He retired after many years of dedicated service with General Motors and continued sharing his expertise as an instructor at Mott Community College for over a decade.
With a deep love for education, hockey, and skiing, George was also a committed ski patrol member at Schuss Mountain in Mancelona, MI. He especially treasured the time spent watching his beloved niece, Alex, excel in her sports and life adventures, always cheering her on with pride.
George is survived by his loving wife, Diane; sister, Linda Herrington; several nieces and nephews, who were like his children; and many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Wheeler; sister, Betty Gutgesell; and sister, Mary Gutgesell; brother, Donnie Gutgesell.
