Charles "Charlie" Nelson
Age 77 of Owosso passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at McLaren Hospital-Flint.
Funeral services will be held 1pm Tuesday March 22, 2016 at Nelson-House Funeral Home with Pastor John Walworth officiating. Burial will follow at Maple River Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday March 21st from 2pm to 8pm.
Charlie was born January 31, 1939 in Monroe, Michigan the son of Wilber and Evelyn (Corey) Nelson.
He graduated from Chesaning High School, class of 1958 and served in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne Rangers Division.
Charlie enjoyed fishing and puttering around the garage doing carpentry, antiquing and wood working and making model airplanes. He looked forward to traveling; especially trips to Scotland and Islands. Charles had a love for animals; especially his cat Lucy and dogs Ruby and Sophie; He will be remembered by his loved ones as a "Good Ole Boy".
He married Beverly Mason in Corunna on August 12, 1988.
Charles retired from Grand Trunk Railroad after 39 years of service.
Charlie is survived by his wife Beverly; children Randy Nelson, Douglas (Kim) Nelson, Valerie Nelson, Michael (Nichole) Nelson and Susan (Todd) Nelson-Harlukowicz; step-daughter Jennifer Hill; grandchildren Jessica (Matt Gilson), Charles, Bryan and Corey Nelson, Skylar Harlukowicz, Christopher (Sierra) Kelley, Nicholas (Rachel Kribs), Kaitlin and David Kelley; great-grandchildren Athena Kribs, Brooklyn Kelley and Jaxson Gilson; siblings Betty Tooker, Harold Nelson and Doris Nelson; in-laws Linda Mason, Kathy (Tom) Runyan and J.D. Mason; special people in his life Ed (RaeAnne)Nelson, Mary (the late Gene) Carpenter, Rick Justice, Chris (Trisha) Dezenski, Frank (Ellen) Stanley and Butch Mayer; several nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Wilber and Evelyn; father and mother-in-law Charles J. and Jean Mason; brother William "Bill" Nelson; sister-in-law LaVerne Mason; niece Harley Shiffer; nephew Shawn Fowler.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Shiawassee County Humane Society or the Hospice House of Shiawassee County.
