SHUMAKER, LeRoy – of Clio, age 90, died peacefully Thursday, April 11, 2024, at the VA Medical Center in Saginaw. Honoring his wishes, cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held at 12PM Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Bethany United Methodist Church – 253 E. Vienna St., in Clio. The family will receive visitors at the church from 10AM until 12PM. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Bethany United Methodist Church or to the Veterans Memorial Park in Clio.
LeRoy was born September 29, 1933, in Flint, to the late Samuel and Nettie (Walker) Shumaker. He attended Clio High School with the class of 1951, and he honorably served in the United States Army National Guard for 20 years. LeRoy was among the many soldiers who assisted after the 1953 Beecher tornado and the 1967 Detroit Riots. On December 6, 1952, LeRoy married the love of his life, Eva Havener, and together they shared 62 years of marriage and attended the Bethany United Methodist Church in Clio. He was a member of the Clio Masonic Temple, the Elf Khurafeh Shriners, and the Vienna Lodge #205 F.&A.M. LeRoy enjoyed visiting the casino from time to time and being outdoors hunting and fishing. Though a quiet man, he was known to be very straight to the point and strong-willed, and he had quite the sense of humor once he became comfortable with you. Above all, LeRoy loved his family and friends dearly. He will be truly missed.
LeRoy is forever remembered by his Children: Cheryl Kennedy, Lynn Shumaker, Hope Urbanik-McGraw, Lori Gentz, and Scott (Kristen) Shumaker; Grandchildren: Samuel McGraw, Isabella (Jason) McGraw, Frank (Jackie) Kennedy, Zachary (Hannah) Gentz, Erik (Ashley) Gentz, Michael (Tabitha) Shumaker, Tyler (Crystal) Shumaker, Christopher Shumaker; Great-Grandchildren: William, Reagan, Madison, Avery, Riley, Patrick, Ollionna, Dylenger, River, and Baby Payment due Fall 2024; Many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. LeRoy was preceded in death by his Wife, Eva Shumaker; Parents, Samuel and Nettie; Siblings: Estella, Ellen, Kathryn, Charles, Ruth, Dorothy, Phyllis, Donald, and Carolyn; Sons-in-Law: James Gentz and Ken Kennedy; Many beloved friends. |
