MERCIER, Charles (Chuck) – of Davison, age 87, passed away Monday, June 17, 2024 at The Pines of Burton Memory Care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 PM Monday, June 24, 2024 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 North Dayton Street, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. Interment will be in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. The family will welcome visitors from 1-6 PM on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the Mass on Monday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. A Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 PM on Sunday at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, in Chuck’s memory.
Charles was born on February 11, 1937 in Flint, Michigan to the late Arthur and Loretta (LaRose) Mercier. He grew up in Flint and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. Chuck married Barbara Ann Baksa on November 8, 1958 in Flint. They were married for 65 beautiful years, creating a legacy of love that will go on for many generations. He worked for Michigan Bell Telephone as a Cable Splicer for 35 years, retiring in 1992. As he had a love of cars and driving, he then worked part-time at Adesa Auto Auctions for 15 years, fully retiring at 80 years old. Chuck was a member of many Catholic churches over his entire life, most recently at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Davison.
Chuck was known for his fierce love and loyalty to family, sailing and camping. There was nothing he enjoyed more than sitting around a campfire with his siblings, wife, children and numerous beloved nieces and nephews discussing the deepest issues of life and sharing jokes. While his absence will be felt by many, the family is comforted that Chuck responded to the call of Jesus: “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; son, Vincent Charles (Jennifer) Mercier, Lake Orion MI; daughters, Rebecca Lynne (John) Grabiel, Naples FL, Teresa Marie (Scott) Dever, Lake Zurich IL, Angela Michelle (Michael) Trembley, Davison MI and Kristina Mercier, Superior CO; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings, Katherine Jackett, Linwood MI, Caroline Ketterer, Flint MI and Francis Mercier, Davison MI. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marjorie Miller and brothers, Arthur James and Harry Edmund Mercier.
Chuck’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Ted Nagy, the staff at Care Team Hospice and The Pines of Burton Memory Care for their exceptional care, love and devotion given to their beloved husband and father during his final days.
