ATTARIAN, Patricia Pearl - It is with great sadness that the family of Patricia Pearl Attarian announce her passing on August 25, 2018. A memorial service will be held 11 AM Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Kirkridge Presbyterian Church, 8070 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc with Rev. Glenn Grant officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until the time of service at the church. Patricia Pearl Attarian was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on September 7, 1939, the daughter of William Hemstra and Thelma Nash. Thelma later married Phillip Fox, who then adopted Pat and her brother Bill. Pat graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1957, then attended Brigham Young University for three years before severe hepatitis forced her to return home. She met her husband Dr. Archie B Attarian in 1961 at Lakeview General Hospital in Battle Creek where she was studying to become an X-ray technician. In 1962 they married and moved to Flint, and started a family. Pat was blessed with three wonderful children, Archie P., Michael Aram, and Teresa Ann. She was a devoted mother and homemaker with an engaging personality and creative touch and was involved in myriad civic activities. She served as President of the Women’s Auxiliary for the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Physician and Surgeons. Pat enjoyed home decorating, especially for the holidays and won the Indian Hills neighborhood Christmas decorating award several times. She was also very active with the Flint Osteopathic Hospital annual Glitter Ball Gala for many years, and hosted a midnight breakfast each year for patrons at the Attarian residence on Old Bridge Road that was greatly received. Pat enjoyed gardening and planting flowers at home and in the Grand Blanc area. She was part of a beautification committee for the grounds of the former Perry Junior High School. Patricia was a Mormon, but after her marriage she became a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Flint and Kirkridge Presbyterian in Grand Blanc. Pat was a strong advocate for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness advocating with the National Alliance on Mental Illness, speaking at congressional hearings, police departments, and state workshops for more funding, education, and to preserve the dignity for those experiencing this devastating condition. Pat had many great friends and especially loved the company with her family and the many great trips she had with her husband around the world (Africa, Italy, India, Northwest Territories, Hawaiian Islands), and she most enjoyed trips with her children and grandchildren with all 11 family members to include many beaches, cruise ships, and summer cottages. The last cruise was to Alaska which she enjoyed but the early stages of pulmonary fibrosis kept her from the strenuous adventures but she would not have missed it for anything to be with her entire family. Patricia is survived by her husband Archie B. Attarian, DO, and two children: Archie Phillip (wife Ginger, grandsons, Peter and Theodore (Teddy) of Arlington, VA; and daughter Teresa Ann-Teri (husband Edward McGinnis, and their three children, Christopher, Ryan, and Taylor) of Vienna, VA. Pat is also survived by her brother Bill Fox of Battle Creek, MI and Aunt Mary Ellen Casey of Grand Rapids, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved son Michael at age 49.
