Warner, Ms. Vanessa “Shawn” age-39 passed away Friday September 11, 2015 at Covenant Healthcare-Saginaw. Funeral services will be held at 11am Friday September 18, 2015 from the Second Chance Church 5306 North St. Rev. Derrick Aldridge officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery G-5175 E. Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10am for visitation. Ms. Warner will repose in the Chapel of the Martin J. Banks Funeral Home-Flint from 8am until 6pm Thursday evening. Ms. Vanessa Shonquel Warner was born October 18, 1975 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Paul J. Jones and Beverly L. Warner.
Vanessa Shonquel affectionately called “Shon” attended Flint Public Schools, graduating from Northwestern High School “Class of 1993.” She went on to cosmetology school to become a nail technician. She became a member of Foss Avenue Baptist Church at an early age. Later, she became a member of New Life Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing and was a former member of Odelia Dunlap Northwest Community Gospel Choir. Shon loved her children and family dearly and made time to keep in touch with family and friends. She also enjoyed shopping and spending time with her friends. She had an infectious laugh, and a great sense of humor!
On Friday, September 11, 2015, Vanessa departed this life and leaves in God’s care, daughter, Aliyaha G. Warner of Flint, MI; son, A’shon L. Warner of Kalamazoo, MI; father, Paul J. Jones of Okolona, AR; sisters, Akia S. Jones, Amyerma N. Jones of Okolona, AR, Quantrele Jones of Atlanta, GA; grandparents, Tom and Elizabeth Jones of Okolona, AR; uncles, Michael Wayne Warner of Flint, MI, Charles Jones, Nathan Jones, Kerry Jones, Barry Jones of AR, Joe Jones of Rockford, IL, Carlos Fisher, Sr. of Detroit, MI; aunts, Veronica Elaine Warner of Kalamazoo, MI; Corliss E. Fisher of Flint, MI, Marion LeGardye-Jones, Lititia Jones, Toma Jones of AR; great-uncles and aunts, James Edward Warner of Doddridge, AR, Irene (Cottrell) Evans of Flint, MI, Reuben (Hannah) Drake of Texarkana, AR; Mildred Richardson, Alda Henderson, Susan Henderson of Lansing, MI, Zolar Strickland of Los Angeles, CA, Marlon (Ruby) Henderson, Sr. of Jonesboro, AR, Lillian Henderson of Memphis, TN; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including lifelong neighbor, Hazel Mathis, special cousin, Lady Rebekah Richardson-Bellgowan, and special lifelong friend, Farrah Bridges.
Vanessa was preceded in death by her mother, Beverly L. Warner; brother, Joseph A. Warner-Lowe; grandparents, Charles and Wyretha Warner; great-grandparents, Charles Sr. and Lady Rebecca Henderson, Elnora Drake; aunt and uncles, Vanessa G. Warner, Raymond Jones, David Jones, Sr.; great uncles and aunts, O’neal and Eurene LeGardye, Eulene Warner, Lee Vester Richardson II, Walter Henderson, S.A. Strickland, Sr., C.J. Henderson, Jr., Carmine O. Henderson and Carol J. Henderson.
