GRATSCH, Theodore James (Ted) – Beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, age 93, of Grand Blanc passed away peacefully Saturday, March 7, 2020, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral service will be held 12pm Monday, March 9, 2020 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Reverend Julius Del Pino, PhD. officiating.
Interment at Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8pm Sunday and 11am Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Grand Blanc United Methodist Church.
Ted was born September 8, 1926 to Robert and Frieda (Reiman) Gratsch. While proud of his naval service in Hawaii during World War II, he was most proud of his family. After the war he married Hazel Bland and they created loving homes in Grand Blanc and at Walloon Lake. Of his four children he said he was a millionaire four times over. His joy increased with each of his eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He enjoyed sports, playing golf and softball for many years, and was an avid Tigers fan. A draftsman at Buick, he was also a master builder who took on many projects around the house and cottage. Later he delighted everyone with his wooden creations.
He, along with his witty sayings and repertoire of silly songs, will be sadly missed by children, Carol Boyce, Gary (Judy) Gratsch, Linda (Dave) Lewis, and Paul (Marcia) Gratsch; 8 grandchildren and spouses, and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Hazel after 64 years of marriage.
