REED, Michael D. – of Montrose, age 73, died Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at his residence with his family by his side. Funeral services will be held 3PM, Saturday, November 11, 2017 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Cremation to follow. Pastor Larry Kluck officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11AM until the time of service at 3PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Ann Arbor, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Michael was born on April 29, 1944 in Flint, Michigan to the late Clarence and Donna (Daly) Reed. He graduated from Birch Run High School in 1962. Michael obtained an associated degree from Mott Community College. He married Karen Mapes in 1964. She later preceded him in death. Michael married Verda Elnora McWherter on September 11, 1982 in Brent Creek, Michigan. Mr. Reed retired from General Motors with 35 years seniority and was a member of UAW Local # 659. Michael was also a member of the Lions Club in Montrose. He was a certified football referee and coached youth football for Montrose for 10 years. Michael enjoyed singing, playing guitar, gardening, camping, fishing, and canoeing. He also enjoyed riding motocross and was a skilled carpenter. Michael always had a strong faith in God that never faded.
Surviving are: Wife, Verda Reed; Children: Eric (Christine) Reed, Lynn (Kenneth) Maynard, Karen Palmer, Greg (Amanda) McWherter; 16 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; Sisters, Bonnie (Don) Walther, Connie Mosher, and Valerie (Tom) Schenk. He was also preceded in death by sons: Matthew Reed and Gary McWherter.
