AFEK, Myrna Ellen – age 80 of Grand Blanc, MI (formerly of Riverview, MI) lost her battle to cancer and passed away Monday, July 13, 2015 at home surrounded by her family. Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 16, 2015 from 4PM-8PM. A sharing time will begin at 7PM with a Rosary Service at 7:30 PM at Hill Funeral Home – 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc, MI. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 17, 2015 at 11AM with one hour of visitation prior to the service at Holy Family Catholic Church – 11824 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc, MI. Msgr. Jerry Vincke celebrant. Burial immediately following at Evergreen Cemetery. Myrna had been living with her daughter for the past year. She was born in Detroit, MI on August 17, 1934 to William and Florence (King) Klein. Myrna graduated from Lincoln Park High School, Class of 1952 and attended several college courses at the University of Detroit. She married Frank L. Afek on June 17, 1961. Myrna worked for Ford Motor Company and Visteon for over 30 years. She was a long time parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parish in Detroit, MI as well as St. Mary’s of Rockwood. She was most recently a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Blanc, MI. Myrna attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Tuesday Novenas and First Friday liturgies faithfully for years. She loved our Lord and Savior and our Blessed Mother. Myrna enjoyed dancing and her Pinochle club and loved to play the piano when she was younger. She instilled in her children the love for classical music and most recently, spending time with her children and grandchildren. Myrna also enjoyed traveling several times to Aruba and Europe. Most recently, she enjoyed watching old classic movies. Myrna will always be remembered as a loving, caring, giving, and faithful person. Surviving are her children, Matthew (Lisa) Afek, Elaine (Alan) Thompson, and Steven Afek; grandchildren, Jonathan, Josiah, and Micah Afek, and Alexander, Nicholas, Jaclyn, Isabelle, and Maria Thompson; siblings, Patricia Adam, and Gerald Klein. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Irene Joan Boss. Those desiring may make contributions to the Holy Family Catholic Outreach program.
